After returning from a month at Winterthur Museum in Delaware, USA, I have come back to lots of ceramic-related news:

The excellent blog for the upcoming V&A exhibition Blue and White: British printed ceramics can be found here. A recent entry by Sau Fong Chan on Scottish Ceramics in Singapore is a great read.

The Henry Rothschild Memorial Lecture with Alison Britton OBE will be held on Thursday 20^th November at the Shipley Art Gallery.

An exhibition called Ahead of the Curve: new china from China is currently on display at The Wilson, Cheltenham, until the 30^th November 2014. The exhibition showcases contemporary ceramics and glass from emerging and established Chinese artists. Click here.

Curators! ArtFund Grants Available

'New Collecting Awards'
FIRST DEADLINE 7 NOVEMBER 2014

A new funding programme that will enable promising and ambitious curators to pursue new avenues of collecting for their museums, and at the same time build critical professional skills.

A fantastic opportunity is offered with this grant programme, New Collecting Awards. It aims to nurture the skills and experience of up and coming curators through participation in a strategic collecting scheme designed to support acquisitions of the highest quality.

There is £300,000 available in the first year.

New Collecting Awards will help museums and galleries develop their fine and applied art collections by offering 100% funding for focussed collecting that will extend holdings into new areas, or deepen existing holdings in imaginative ways. 

And, because the ArtFund believes that excellent collections development requires growing curatorial vision and ambition, award recipients will also receive a funding allocation dedicated to their own professional development – to spend on research, travel and training costs to support their collecting plans, as well as the ongoing support of a mentor, ArtFund staff and trustees.

Two news items: bursary and conference

Details follow of the second Henry Rothschild Ceramics Bursary; and of a conference Ceramics in the expanded field at the University of Westminster. 

BURSARY: Henry Rothschild Ceramics Bursary

Applications are now invited for the Henry Rothschild Ceramics Bursary in partnership with Northumbria University.

The Henry Rothschild Ceramics Bursary of £5,000 will be awarded to an emerging ceramic artist.

The aim of the award is to give an artist the opportunity to develop their practice in ways in which they would not otherwise have the time or resources to do, enabling them to pursue new creative directions and ways of working.

Artists will be chosen by an independent selection panel and must be UK resident and have graduated or set up their practice for a minimum of 3 years.
